Our Experience in Northampton
Asbestos Removal & Demolition Soft Strip, The Spires, Sheep Street, Northampton
Scope:
C Jackson & Sons were appointed by Kier as Sub-Contractor for the asbestos removal and demolition soft strip package to facilitate this major refurbishment project in Northampton town centre.
The 4 storey former office building was to be retained and converted into a state funded school.
Our works package included removal of asbestos containing materials and major internal demolition strip out works throughout the 4 floors including a roof level plant room.
Work started at the 4th floor plant room and progressed down the building floor by floor.
Our sister company Jackson Environmental removed AIB panels, packers and ceiling tiles in four asbestos proof enclosures.
Asbestos containing window sills, fire doors, soffits and textured coatings were also removed. Textured coating was removed from concrete surfaces using wet shot blasting methods under fully controlled asbestos conditions.
We removed M&E services including plant room, and soft stripped the building back to the original masonry and concrete shell.
Approximately 1000m² of non-asbestos fire proof coating was removed from the basement ceiling.
In total, 120 tonnes of demolition soft strip waste was sent for recycling and 12 tonnes of asbestos waste sent to landfill.
The project was completed in 4 weeks with an average of 25 asbestos removal and demolition operatives employed each day.
Asbestos Removal & Demolition Soft Strip, Countess Road, Northampton
C Jackson & Sons were appointed Principle Contractor for the enabling works to facilitate conversion of the former factory to 54 residential apartments.
Constructed in the 1950’s, as a Barker shoe factory, the 3 storey building had been derelict for a number of years and had fallen into disrepair.
The project included removal of widespread pigeon Guano, removal of asbestos and soft strip works.
Our sister company Jackson Environmental first decontaminated the building by removing pigeon Guano, non-licenced asbestos materials and asbestos debris strewn over three floors.
General debris, floor coverings and suspended ceilings were also removed.
Asbestos pipe insulation and AIB ceiling board was removed in five asbestos proof enclosures and the building handed back to C Jackson & Sons for final soft strip works.
We removed stud partitions, ply floor coverings, wall tiling & M&E services.
On completion of the works, external windows and doors were boarded over to prevent further pigeon contamination.
All plant and equipment used was supplied by C Jackson & Sons and waste skips were supplied and serviced by our in house RoRo transport.
The project was completed within 4 weeks.
