Making Safe a Dangerous and Derelict Site: Demolition Soft Strip & Removal of Damaged Asbestos
SCOPE:Remove damaged asbestos containing materials (ACM’s) and carry out an internal soft strip of the building
Share
Covering 7,500m², the former New Barnfield Centre is a cluster of derelict office buildings, situated in a rural area on the South side of Hatfield
The site had become overgrown with access paths becoming inaccessible and trees posing a hazard.
While the buildings were mostly secure, there have been several instances of trespass.
Large areas of the buildings were subject to considerable vandalism and the interiors posed a significant risk to those entering them.
The main purpose of the project was to remove damaged asbestos containing materials (ACM’s) and carry out an internal soft strip of the building. Building components which were deemed unsafe or unsecure were removed, including:
- Sections of severely damaged suspended ceilings
- Loose debris
- Glass to perimeter windows and internal partitions
- Glass fire doors
- Low level plasterboard to remove trip hazard
Our reinstatement team boarded up windows and roof skylights and protected the buildings with Anti climb paint.
The project was completed in three weeks by a 15 strong site team, supported by our in house waste skips, telescopic fork lifts and small plant.
