SCOPE:Shopping parade demolition – Old Hatfield Regeneration Project

Share

As part of the latest phase of the Old Hatfield Regeneration, C. Jackson & Sons were proud to be appointed Principal Contractor for the demolition of Salisbury Square – a 1960s three‑storey shopping parade comprising seven retail units with maisonettes above. Once home to a Costcutter convenience store, barbers, launderette, and takeaway restaurants, the site sat prominently opposite Hatfield Train Station and was bordered by busy public car parks, pedestrian areas, and neighbouring businesses.

Delivering with Precision and Care

Our team carried out extensive pre‑demolition works, including the safe removal of asbestos‑containing materials and full soft stripping of the building. Using our specialist 23m high‑reach excavator, the structure was carefully dismantled, with hand demolition techniques employed where the building adjoined occupied spaces to ensure safety and minimal disruption.

Lower levels were demolished by our 50 tonne excavator fitted with a 5 tonne cutting shear with support from smaller 25 tonne, 15 tonne excavators & wheeled shovels which were used for primary processing and loading materials.

Commitment to Sustainability

Environmental responsibility was at the forefront of the project. All materials were segregated into appropriate waste streams and removed for recycling. In total, 1,780 tonnes of waste were recovered, with only 55 tonnes (including asbestos) sent to landfill – a testament to our commitment to sustainable practices.
