Recycling

C Jackson & Sons are committed to protecting the environment by promoting the highest standards of environmental management in the performance of its activities

Concrete Crushing

Masonry and concrete arising from demolition operations is recycled by crushing on or off site. The resulting material is then suitable for use in construction as an alternative to new aggregates.
On-site crushing offers a range of benefits, from environmental, to logistical and financial advantages. Crushing on-site reduces pollution by cutting traffic movements to and from the site. It also keeps masonry and concrete material out of the waste stream.

Reclamation

Salvageable building materials from our own demolition works are graded, cleaned and stacked on pallets for resale at our reclamation yard in Thurleigh.

Our Experience in Luton

Located just north of Luton we are perfectly positioned to provide a comprehensive and complete service. We have undertaken asbestos removal and demolition projects of all shapes and size in Luton and the surrounding area. These include offices, domestic properties, industrial properties, schools and colleges.

We have recently undertaken the following work in the area:

Demolition at Vauxhall Motors, K Block Administration Building, Luton

The Vauxhall Motor Company came to Luton in 1905 and started making motor cars in 1907.

Situated at the front of the 7 acre factory on Kimpton Road, the large four storey office building, extending to over 4000m² was Vauxhall‘s administration building.

K Block was sold in 2020 to London Luton Airport Ltd for conversion into new offices and car parking.

C Jackson & Sons were awarded the contract and were Principle Contractor for the asbestos removal and demolition package to facilitate this major refurbishment project.

K Block 9

Asbestos was used extensively throughout the building and pigeon defecation was present to the upper floors and to external flat roofs and courtyards.

Arsenic containing paper was also identified to the main foyer ceiling

Our works package included full decontamination of the building, removal of arsenic, & all asbestos containing materials and major internal & external demolition works including removal of M&E equipment back to a bare shell.

At the start of the works, we carefully removed a number of items of historic interest; light switches radiators & bathroom furniture and handed the items to the client for re use in the new development.

All of the plant used on site which included telescopic fork lifts, BROKK demolition robot, generators and welfare units was supplied in house by C Jackson & Sons who also supplied RoRo waste skips and haulage.

The project was completed in 5 weeks with an average of 15 asbestos removal and demolition operatives employed each day.

Demolition of Former Monarch HQ. Luton Airport

These works were the demolition of the West Wing of Prospect House, former Monarch HQ. The building was mechanically demolished down to ground slab level. Careful demolition was required where demolished building abuts the retained structure. Material was crushed on site for re-use. This project is featured in our case studies.
